Overview

Figma is where most product design happens, and its AI features arrived on top of that incumbency rather than the other way round. The AI layer covers first-draft generation from a text prompt, prompt-to-prototype via Figma Make, background removal, image editing and the drudgery jobs — renaming layers, writing placeholder copy, searching a bloated file for the component you half-remember. Judge it as a design tool with AI attached, not as an AI tool. That framing matters, because if you are already in Figma the AI is a convenience worth having, and if you are not, none of it is a reason to switch. The honest limitation is that generated drafts land somewhere between a wireframe and a real screen: fine as a starting point for a team that will redesign it anyway, thin as a finished artifact.
