Overview

ClickUp wants to be the only work app you open: tasks, docs, whiteboards, goals, dashboards, chat, time tracking and, now, AI woven through all of it — summarising threads, writing updates, answering questions about your workspace and generating tasks from a brief. The breadth is real and the free plan is unusually capable, which is why it spreads so easily inside companies. It is also the source of every serious criticism. ClickUp is configurable to the point of paralysis: statuses, custom fields, views and automations multiply until nobody agrees what a task means, and teams routinely spend more time administering the tool than doing the work in it. Performance has historically lagged behind leaner rivals, and the interface is dense. If you have a strong operations person who will own the setup and defend it, ClickUp can genuinely replace four tools. If you do not, it becomes an expensive, chaotic Jira. Pick it deliberately, not because the feature list is longer.
